Bad hair days are up there along with waking up before your alarm, realising you’re out of milk, and getting caught in rush-hour traffic as one the most annoying things to happen in the morning. Checking the mirror and seeing flat or frizzy hair can crush your confidence, but there are a number of ways you can avoid the dreaded dullness.
No matter how busy you are, here are the 5 things you should never skip from your hair care routine:
1. Regular haircuts
Nipping to the barbers isn’t something you need to incorporate into your daily routine, but it’s still a task you should prioritise for healthy-looking hair. Once you’ve found a barbers you trust, try to book in at least once every 4-6 weeks to keep the length, volume, and style intact.
2. Massaging your hair
Washing your hair might seem like a chore, but don’t rush it. Taking the time to massage shampoo and conditioner into your hair will stimulate the hair follicles and help it to grow thicker and healthier. Stick to washing your hair between 2-3 times a week and opt for cold water (if you can bear it!).
3. Drying your hair
It may be tempting to let your hair dry naturally on your way to work but this only leads to unruliness, so set aside a bit of extra time to either towel or blow dry your locks. If you opt for towel drying, make sure to be gentle to avoid pulling or snapping your hair. If you prefer blow drying, keep your hairdryer on a low heat setting and brush your hair in the direction you want your parting to stay.
4. Brushing your hair
Having shorter hair doesn’t mean you can get away without brushing it daily. Not only does a gentle comb stop your hair from knotting, but it also helps to distribute its natural oils throughout. Be gentle when you brush – you don’t want to flatten your hair.
5. Regular ear/nose hair trims
There’s no point in having the perfect locks if you let your ear and nose hair grow out of control! Yes, you do need some hair there, but there’s no harm in keeping it neat and tidy. Some barbers will do the job for you, but otherwise there are a number of ways you can trim the hair at home. Top tip: don’t pluck your hairs out with tweezers. Not only is it incredibly painful, but you also run the risk of infection.
